UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Vera Brezhneva, together with representatives of the international community presented a regional online initiative Remember & Act – It’s in Your Power! within the World Remembrance Day of AIDS Victims.
The online initiative consists of an interactive online map of 19 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the Baltic states and the Balkans, which presents 45 stories about how sustainability of services for people from key populations was created during the pandemic who are people behind it.

Умение эффективно взаимодействовать с партнерами для решения любой чрезвычайной ситуации и создания устойчивости жизненно важных сервисов, включая вспышку COVID-19 и продолжающуюся пандемию ВИЧ — залог развития и успеха.Сообщества ключевых групп и людей, живущих с ВИЧ, показали свое умение самоорганизовываться, оперативно и эффективно решать жизненно важные вопросы, и продуктивно работать с государством. During the pandemic and total isolation, it is important to demonstrate the strength of the communities in the region. The ability to effectively interact with partners to resolve any emergency and create sustainability of vital services, including the outbreak of COVID-19 and the ongoing HIV pandemic, is the key to development and success.
Key populations and people living with HIV have shown their ability to self-organize, quickly and efficiently solve vital issues, and work effectively with the state. During the pandemic, the lock down rallied the world community, activists and doctors more and more: patents are revoked, personal protective supplies for doctors and lung ventilators are quickly procured, mobile teams for medications delivery between and within countries are organized.
Remarkably, in 2020, the World Remembrance Day for AIDS victims is celebrated on May, 17. On this day, people around the world remember their friends and relatives who died due to AIDS.
Apart from Vera Brezhneva the live stream was joined by Andriy Klepikov, the Executive Director of the Alliance for Public Health, Alexander Goliusov, Director, Regional Director for EECA at UNAIDS, Nurali Amanzholov, the Executive Director of the Central Asian Association of People Living with HIV , and Liubov Vorontsova, the Director of #SoS_project in Kazakhstan.
